The Hillside Gardeners of Montclair

Treading Lightly on the Earth:
Using and Reusing What is Already There

The objectives of the Club are to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening; to aid in the protection of native trees, plants and birds; and to encourage civic planting and conservation. This year’s theme is “Treading Lightly on the Earth: Using and Reusing What is Already There”

We maintain the gardens at the Montclair Public Library, the Joaquin Miller Community Center, and the Sensory and Mediterranean Gardens at the Gardens at Lake Merritt. We also began and staff the after-school ecology club at the Joaquin Miller Elementary School. We provide scholaships for horticulture students at Merritt College and UC Berkeley, and donate to local conservation groups such as Friends of Sausal Creek.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Thanks again to everyone for making our 2011 the most successful in the history of the Hillside Gardeners. We raised over $12,000. This money will support our community outreach efforts.

Next tour: Spring 2013! Send an email to Tour at HillsideGardeners dot com if you would like to be put on the email list for that tour.

HILLSIDE GARDENERS ENDORSES FOODPOOL

The Hillside Gardeners of Montclair are pleased to give our endorsement to FoodPool (www.FoodPool.org).  FoodPool is an organization that is collecting people's extra garden produce to take to local food banks and pantries. The pilot FoodPool program is right here in Montclair, though FoodPool is working actively to launch new FoodPools everywhere that there are people going hungry. The Hillside Gardeners encourage everyone to check out FoodPool and donate produce, time, or just plain encouragement if they are able to do so.
